Our July Film Programme Is Here!

In July we will continue to celebrate our first year delivering a weekly programme of independent British films and world cinema, presenting two films around creativity and the passion for cinema, recognising the power of art and intergenerational friendship!

In 1990, Cinema Paradiso won an Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film representing Italy, and received many other prizes. It became a classic for cinema lovers around the world. It has been one of the most popular films of our time, a real tribute to our fondest cinema memories. Even 35 years after its release it remains a firm favourite for many.

The film will be introduced by Mike Baxter, former Cinema Manager and Buyer at diverse cinemas in Trowbridge and in different locations in England by the time Cinema Paradiso was released in the UK.

La Bella Vita

Additionally, we have partnered with the local Italian cafe La Bella Vita, just around the corner from the Town Hall at 60 Castle Street, for a special promotion on Friday 1st July between 4 pm and 7 pm, those who book a ticket for Cinema Paradiso will have a discount to enjoy a fresh pizza or a pasta and a glass of wine for only £13.  Angelo and Glenda will look after all your dietary requirements.

In 2018, Faces Places was nominated to the Academy Awards as Best Documentary, and Agnès Varda becomes the oldest person nominated for any competitive Oscar. This is one of the last films by Varda, this time working with J.R., a young photographer and muralist. They embarked on a stunning journey around the French countryside in a real tribute to creativity, art and the everlasting life of the captured images!

A celebration of art, film, and friendship presented through the eyes of young and older generations of characters for the enjoyment of our audience before a pause in our programme for some weeks. A time to reflect on our work with films during this first year of ‘Film at The Town Hall’, returning in September after making some adjustments with the help of your feedback. Please leave your feedback here for our first year evaluation! (it takes less than 10 minutes)

These events have been possible with support from the BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN) awarding funds from The National Lottery and Film Hub South West.

Enjoy the summer holidays and thank you for your continued support.
