Refurbishment Update | February ’24

PROJECT UPDATES

Since the Christmas break, works have been progressing on the roof. All areas have now been stripped and are either temporary weather protected or the new build up has commenced.

In the Great Hall, the new acoustic and thermal works are complete, with these areas felt and battened ready for slating.

New insulation has been installed to the caretakers flat and above the main staircase. These areas will be slated in the coming weeks.

Stonemasons are progressing on the external restoration and repairs across all the facades. This includes the clock tower where new pointing and pieces of stone are being replaced.

Internally, following the removal of the staircase and existing lift shaft, the floors on the ground floor and first floor have been infilled with concrete. This has opened up the lobby and the Great Hall. New drainage, lift shaft base and storage areas have had concrete poured.

In the basement, holes have been formed in existing walls in preparation for the new services to be installed. In the Great Hall, strengthening of the existing roof structure is taking place to allow the new slates to be installed externally.

SOCIAL VALUE

Beard have also carried out some social value activities:

  • Together with Distinction Decorating, we gave the new Trowbridge Future Youth centre on Mill Street a fresh look (thanks to Dulux and Travis Perkins for supplying the paint).
  • Installed some careers in construction boards on site hoarding to provide information on different routes into construction.
  • Site visits and tours – six children from Downland School and 15 Bath University students studying civil engineering.
  • Installed a new community board outside the site to share environmental, social value and project information.
